TMT

At Svayou Healthcare Centre, we offer advanced Treadmill Test (TMT) services to evaluate the health of your heart during physical activity. Also known as a stress test, the TMT measures how well your heart handles increased workload, providing crucial insights into potential cardiac issues.

What is a TMT Test?

A TMT test involves walking or running on a treadmill while connected to an ECG machine. The test monitors:

  • Heart rate and rhythm
  • Blood pressure
  • Electrical activity of the heart under stress

This helps identify problems that may not be evident during rest, such as reduced blood flow to the heart or exercise-induced arrhythmias.

When is a TMT Test Recommended?

Your doctor may suggest a TMT test if you:

  • Experience chest pain or discomfort during physical activity.
  • Have symptoms such as shortness of breath, dizziness, or palpitations.
  • Have a family history of heart disease or risk factors like diabetes, hypertension, or high cholesterol.
  • Are recovering from a heart attack or undergoing cardiac rehabilitation.
  • Require evaluation before starting an exercise program or strenuous activity.

How to Prepare for a TMT Test?

  • Clothing: Wear comfortable, loose clothing and walking shoes.
  • Fasting: Avoid heavy meals, caffeine, and alcohol for at least 2–3 hours before the test.
  • Medications: Inform our team about your current medications, as some may need to be adjusted before the test.
  • Relax: Stay calm and well-rested before your appointment.

What to Expect During the TMT Test

  • Preparation:
Electrodes will be attached to your chest to monitor heart activity. Baseline ECG and blood pressure readings will be taken at rest.

  • Treadmill Exercise:
You will walk or run on the treadmill, starting at a slow pace. The speed and incline will gradually increase to simulate stress conditions.

  • Monitoring:
Your heart activity, blood pressure, and symptoms will be continuously monitored during the test.

  • Cool Down:
After the test, you will be monitored during a recovery period to assess how quickly your heart returns to normal.

Benefits of a TMT Test

  • Detects coronary artery disease (CAD)
  • Identifies exercise-induced arrhythmias
  • Assesses the effectiveness of heart treatments
  • Evaluates overall heart fitness and capacity
